WHAT YOUR AUDIENCE CAN EXPECTPlease try to avoid picking a genre that you think we most align with - we'll probably surprise you!!
If you like original music that draws influences from Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel, Supertramp, Crosby Stills and Nash, David Bowie coupled with some epic storytelling, humour and heartfelt emotions, then you'll love the Red Dirt Skinners.
ONE SENTENCE HEADLINESublime genre-crossing musicianship from a multi-award winning duo who comfortably blend exceptional, almost telepathic, harmonies with unique instrumentation to create a full band sound. Audiences fall in love with the Skinners sound.
SHORT BIOGRAPHY - 200 wordsThe Red Dirt Skinners, a genre-busting husband-wife duo, continue to make musical waves. They are the first act in history to achieve accolades at the British Blues Awards and the British Country Music Awards, plus the distinction of finalists in the Folk category for the UK Songwriting Awards.
The current album, Behind The Wheel was nominated Album of the Year at the International Acoustic Music Awards and voted Folk/Roots Album of the Year in several polls.
Having no tie to any particular genre means that the Red Dirt Skinners sound is instantly recognisable. With male and female harmonies blending together as one voice and Sarah’s trademark soprano saxophone solos, you will be swept along by the refreshingly different approach to an evening of music making with this husband and wife duo.
Five critically acclaimed albums to the good, The BBC described the Red Dirt Skinners as “taking the music scene by storm.” They have a natural rapport with their audiences and their live shows are a wonderful experience; a musical journey to remember. Be prepared for laugh out loud lyrics, followed by songs sure to pull at your heartstrings. Rob and Sarah Skinner will steal your hearts.
LONG BIOGRAPHY - 400 wordsWidely regarded as one of the most innovative acts to come out of the UK in recent years, the sublime genre-defying sound of the Red Dirt Skinners is created by husband and wife team, Rob and Sarah Skinner.
In 2013 the Red Dirt Skinners became the first band in history to succeed at both the British Blues and the British Country Music awards. Don’t let these accolades pigeonhole the Skinners though; their audiences always describe them as ‘refreshingly different’. Drawing on influences from folk, country, blues, americana, jazz and everything between, the Red Dirt Skinners’ sound is instantly recognisable.
‘Musically set apart from the mass of bands who are just copying what has gone before’ Music News
Comfortably blending exceptional, almost telepathic, harmonies with the unique instrumentation of soprano saxophone and acoustic guitar, audiences fall in love with the Skinners sound.
‘The space where the vocals of Sarah and Rob Skinner meet features two tones existing as a single note’ The Alternate Root Magazine.
Sarah trained classically on the clarinet from about the age of 6 and progressed through all the grades before switching to the saxophone. In 2014 Sarah became the first female artist to be endorsed by Trevor James Saxophones.
Rob grew up with a father who played bass guitar and a grandmother who taught piano. As a young teen he turned to the guitar, but still plays many other instruments. Rob brings the occasional rocky influence to the band.
After winning at the British Blues Awards, Sarah requested to be removed from future Awards, citing that the Skinners music didn't fit into one genre and they didn't want to be pigeonholed.
Rob and Sarah write all their material together, with Sarah focussing on lyrics and Rob adding his extensive music theory knowledge to create unique chord sequences and stylings.
Advocates for finding the positives in every situation, Rob and Sarah spend much of their off-tour time encouraging new artists into the music scene and finding them performance opportunities.
From small beginnings in small venues, the Red Dirt Skinners swift rise in popularity sees them now commanding theatre audiences across The UK, Europe and Canada. A Red Dirt Skinners concert combines captivating storytelling with knowing lyricism and outstanding musicianship.
The Red Dirt Skinners are currently relishing some wonderful press and extensive airplay of Behind The Wheel and are writing songs for their fifth studio album.

As soon as you meet Sarah and Rob from the Red Dirt Skinners, you know you’re in safe hands. Their professionalism is evident from the start, not in a showy way (they’re actually quite laid back) but they have a refreshingly proactive approach to marketing and are superbly efficient technically, supplying their own PA and setting up before and after the concert. And they’re nice people too. Warm and personable on stage, they deliver original material on guitar and soprano sax with great musicianship and style. But its the vocals that resonated and connected with the audience.
Superb harmonies and conversational lyrics left everyone feeling like old friends by the end of the evening.
Florence Arts Centre, Egremont, Cumbria, England
This was a great night of live music and working with you guys was no problem at all… from the very useful pre-show info and rider, to the extra help with marketing and promoting the event it was a smooth process. The gig itself was perfect - 100% positive feedback from a very appreciative audience and a great atmosphere.
Our performance space is great for intimate gigs like this one and the harmonies and musicianship were exquisite; that, along with your willingness to share the personal stories and the background to your songwriting made for an unexpectedly emotional and heartfelt night… alongside some great toe-tappers too! The blend of genres is a perfect fit for us.
Montrose Folk Club, Scotland
The Red Dirt Skinners promise a unique sound and outstanding songwriting, they do not disappoint. Outstanding musicianship from both Rob and Sarah and the icing on the cake are sublime vocal harmonies. I was really looking forward to their gig at Montrose Folk Club and now I can't wait for their return or the next time they are in the area, I can't recommend them enough.
Showplace Theatre, Peterborough Ontario, Canada
Not only are The Red Dirt Skinners blisteringly talented musicians, they're also some of the nicest folks in show business.
Oaksey Village Hall, Wiltshire, England
As a promoter, getting good rapport with the performers is an essential part of having a successful event and from the first contact with Sarah and Rob it was clear that they were a very professional, organised and committed band. Promotional information was readily available on their excellent web site and Sarah was quick to respond to any requests for posters, photos etc. They made clear what their requirements were for their performance so last minute panics looking for electrical, lighting or sound support were avoided, in fact they arrived with all the necessary kit packed neatly in the van!
On arrival for the performance they were extremely organised in setting up the stage. Rob was meticulous with the sound checks and very obviously knew exactly what he wanted to achieve. The set-up was completed in good time to allow the audience access to the hall and the performance ran promptly to time.
Once into the show, the audience were very clearly swept along with the variety and range of excellent music and song from this extremely talented and professional couple. Their own compositions, often relating events and stories of their life and experiences, were interspersed with some well known covers and linked with amusing introductions.
Sarah's amazing performance on soprano saxophone was at times mellow and haunting, other times was at full throttle and she still had enough breath left for vocal numbers. Rob on guitar, drums, vocals and tambourine had us wondering how he could do so many things at once but he certainly got feet tapping and hands clapping! Their obvious enthusiasm for live performance was infectious and much enjoyed by a mixed age range audience.
In a nut shell they are a great band, it was great performance and we'd certainly love to get them back in the future!
Talaton Village Hall, Devon, England
The performance was sold out well in advance of the show, and now I see why. The Red Dirt Skinners absolutely rocked our village hall. Welcome back any time. Wow, what a night we had! The Red Dirt Skinners are out of this world. What a sound Sarah and Rob make together, a perfect blend. Our audience was simply blown away and I'm under considerable pressure to bring them back for a return visit.
Transclyde Music, Isle of Bute, Scotland
From their very first number at Craigmore Bowling Club on Saturday night, the Red Dirt Skinners had the Transclyde Music audience in the palms of their hands. This amazing duo sang and played their hearts out with an eclectic mix of musical genres from Country to jazz, blues to folk and beyond.
Throughout the set Sarah complemented Rob’s strong, confident vocals and his extremely proficient guitar playing, culminating in a wonderful fusion of great vocals, beautiful guitar and bluesy, jazzy soprano sax. The sound system was set up by Rob himself, expertly controlling every aspect from the ipad equipped digital mixer.
Throughout the evening the audience were captivated and responsive, joining in on choruses and applauding loudly. There are some lovely responses on Facebook following this concert. The Red Dirt Skinners went away from Bute at least as happy as the audience, and they are already looking forward to returning soon.
Slindon Village Hall, West Sussex, England
The Red Dirt Skinners are a very nice couple and we worked together well both before the event and on the night. The performance was outstanding and they fulfilled all the positive reviews that had been said by the music press and better. They had a very good rapport with the audience who enjoyed their personalities and their musicianship. They played some familiar numbers and their own compositions; just the right balance.
Fantastic feedback from the audience both on the night and afterwards. The audience, some of whom were not sure what to expect, were delighted with the performance and the outstanding quality of their musicianship. I would like to thank Rob and Sarah for making it such a lovely evening for everyone.
The Old Church Theatre, Trenton, Ontario, Canada
A wonderful performance. I don’t recall any band receiving such thundering applause. Sarah received a standing ovation for her sax solo on the very first number.
